Driven by commitment, powered by passion, The Open Heart Youth Movement (OHYM) participated in the 33rd Annual International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) 2018 together with the Open Heart Foundation Worldwide, Inc. (OHFWI) staff and beneficiaries from Biñan, Manila, and Quezon City. This is to help LESSEN and IMPROVE the cleanliness of our ocean, held last September 22, 2018 at Baywalk, Roxas Boulevard.
To save Mother Earth from near destruction and the oceans from contamination, thousands of participants from different schools and organizations gathered for this event. This activity only happens once a year where our ocean is the focus. Many participants from different sectors came to offer their helping hands in order to remove all unnecessary debris in the shorelines.
The children & youth organization of the Foundation felt that there is an urge to be involved in this advocacy. Twenty seven (27) volunteers successfully participated and completed the task of gathering and segregating garbage’s from the bay like plastics, plastic bottles, cups, slippers, and other things that are considered as trash. In total, OHF volunteers collected 11 trash bags filled with garbage which had an estimated weight of 71.8 Kilo in the distance of 1 kilometer.
By participating in this project and doing this simple gesture, we have conveyed our humble effort to save our mother nature from destruction. We know that each of us have a responsibility to save & conserve our environment. More so, it is our duty to maintain a clean ocean in particular.
Those who participated in this endeavor felt a feeling of fulfillment and therefore pledged to take part again in the next International Coastal Clean-Up. Call of duty as they say; let us all be responsible in keeping our ocean clean and safe for all the living organisms that depend on water.
